Practical information about the West Dunbartonshire Council's Short Term Let Licence process. To be read in conjunction with the information relevant to the process for the whole of Scotland.

You need to complete the online application process here
Or you can request a paper copy form from the Licensing team at the Council
You will be asked to submit the following documents as part of the application process:
Detailed to scale floor plan showing the items mentioned at 4.7(b) of the policy document
EPC dated within the last 10 years
Buildings insurance
Public Liability Insurance
Gas safety certificate dated within the last 12 months, properly completed and showing the property is safe to let
Completed fire risk assessment - here is an example one
EICR dated within the last 5 years, properly completed and showing the property is safe to let
PAT report
Legionella risk assessment
Guest information sheet
Private water supply sample results (if the property has a private water supply)
Owner(s) declaration (if you own your property jointly or you do not own the property)
Evidence of letting before 1 October 2022 e.g. booking confirmation email from Sykes for a booking(s) that took place before 1 October 2022 or an Owner Statement.
The licence fee for secondary letting is £766.
There are additional conditions to comply with, these include:
Ensuring the bedrooms, living room and hallway are covered with carpet or vinyl together with quality underlay - this condition is not automatic and may be imposed in flats at 1st floor and above where complaints received regarding noise
Taking reasonable steps to ensure guests do not first arrive or finally depart between the hours of 11pm and 7am - this condition is not automatic and may be imposed in flats with residential property below or close proximity to neighbouring property or in a shared building
Clearly labelling bins as belonging to the property
Not affixing a key box/device to any public or jointly owned infrastructure without provable consent
Ensuring LPG room-heaters are not present
If there is solid fuel appliance (e.g. open fire/wood burner), chimney/flue is inspected and record available for inspection.
