How to changeover your property affectively
Nothing beats a good first impression right? Well, the same thing goes for a holiday cottage! But in all of the excitement of letting your property, it's easy to forget holiday let cleaning and changeover requirements.
You want to make a good impression when the guests arrive at the property and alongside a holiday let welcome pack, there is nothing more important than welcoming your guests with a clean property.Having said this, during peak periods things can get a little hectic which can occasionally lead to the odd little job being forgotten. And this is why we've put together a holiday let cleaning & changeover checklist of the jobs that, when done, will make any holiday cottage feel like a true home from home!
The area which requires the most maintenance in any property - the kitchen! Starting with the toughest room is a great way to kickstart your holiday let changeover checklist.
Check inside the dishwasher in case any dishes have been left in there, if so put them away
Clean the fridge and freezer inside and out, removing any items left behind. The freezer may need defrosting and so it is worth doing this early on in the clean
Give the counters (including under any work-top appliances) and cupboard doors a good wipe down
Clean both the microwave and oven inside and out. Empty any crumbs out of the toaster
Vacuum and mop the floors
Remove any old food
Ensure there is sufficient glassware, cutlery and crockery
Second on our holiday cottage changeover checklist is the living area. A living room is one of the main places for guests to relax and unwind, so making sure this area is spic and span should be a top priority during your holiday let changeover.
Clean and vacuum/mop the floors, make sure to do under the furniture as well
Dust the surfaces, e.g. window sills, TV
Remove any magazines, newspapers that might have been left behind
Make sure that things like fuel for fires e.t.c. are stocked up
Clean any open fires or log burners
Vacuum and refresh sofas and armchairs
Get rid of any spiderwebs
Making sure your property's bedroom is immaculately presented and welcoming for guests is vital for holiday let success.
Remove all of the bedding from the used beds, check the mattresses
Dust the surfaces and check all of the wardrobes and drawers for any personal items that might have been left behind
Clean all of the mirrors
Give the floors a good vacuum, making sure to get right under the beds and behind any furniture
Make all of the beds up with clean bedding
The bathroom is a prime area for damp and grime, so it's important to keep this area spotless during holiday let changeovers.
Vacuum and then mop the floors
Clean the showers, bath tubs and sinks, throwing away any soaps, shampoos, etc. left behind by guests
Clean the toilets thoroughly
Clean the mirrors and tiles
Check all drains are working and bleach/unblock if required
Clean blinds and dust off window ledges
Last but not least on our holiday let changeover checklist is the garden. Making sure your holiday cottage's outdoor space is clean and tidy is important as it sets a good impression before guests enter the property.
Weed borders and cover with fresh bark if required
Clean any outside furniture, plant pots and patio if required
Replace/remove any plants that didn't survive the winter
Cut back any overgrown trees or bushes
Ensure barbeque is in working order
Cut and treat lawns
Ensure outdoor lighting is working
Sweep up any dead leaves
