Practical information about the Orkney Islands Council's Short Term Let Licence process. To be read in conjunction with the information relevant to the process for the whole of Scotland.
Read the Orkney Islands Council's guidance.
You will have the option to complete an online application form OR download a paper application form. If choosing to complete a paper form, you must submit the following:
You will be asked to submit floorplans as part of the application process. These should be provided electronically where possible, including via email. Three coloured printouts to scale must be provided for all applications.
Details of what to include in your floorplan can be found in Annex C of the Guidance.
Read about the Orkney Islands Council's licence fees here. The relevant fee for most of our owners is that being charged for secondary letting (ie. when you let out accommodation that isn’t your only or principal home), and so it is that fee to which we’ve referred in the table below. All numbers below refere to maximum occupancy:
Linked isles:
Up to 4 occupants: £310
5–9 occupants: £380
10 or more occupants: £510
Non-linked isles:
Up to 4 occupants: £232.50
5–9 occupants: £285
10 or more occupants: £382.50
The Orkney Islands Council has not adopted any additional licence conditions at this time, but may develop these as the licensing scheme becomes operational.
