5 Ways to Turn Your Holiday Let into a Cosy Winter Bolthole

Brrr! It’s getting a little chilly outside and no matter how much we try to resist, the pull of the warm indoors is calling for us to head inside and cosy up.

As humans, we’re not really a species known for our methods of hibernation, but sometimes we all just need to spend time wrapped up warm. A holiday cottage, away from the distractions of the everyday, is the perfect place to partake in a bit of human-style hibernation. Just a few simple tips and tricks will help you furnish your holiday let in preparation for winter.

1. Cosy Kitchen Additions

The cold weather calls for soups, hot drinks, warming stews and casseroles. Include large pots, and casserole dishes and perhaps a basic slow cooker in your kitchen so that guests can indulge in these delicious winter warmers! Also, don’t forget to include large mugs for the all-important hot drinks that your guests will be drinking.

2. Turn The Heat Up

There is nothing better during the colder months than escaping from the cold outdoors into the warmth, but there is often little need to heat up the entire property. Fitting a log burner in the living area can add both heat and a cosy atmosphere, whilst a heated towel rail in the bathroom will heat both the room and towels. Electronic heaters are also a great idea and your guests are sure to appreciate being able to heat up a room before heading in to it! Remember to turn the heating and a light on in preparation for your guests’ arrival to make sure they’re entering a warm and cosy property, this will make for a great first impression! Installing a smart thermostat can ensure your property stays at a comfortable temperature.

3. Extra Blankets to Wrap Up Warm

No winter bolthole would be complete without cosy blankets and fleecy throws. Include a hamper full of extra blankets, throws and pillows for your guests to wrap up in when the weather is a little chilly. Also, whilst wooden and stone flooring can really give your property character, it really doesn’t add much heat, so it is a good idea to invest in a rug or two to put down during the colder months.

4. Wintry Additions for your Welcome Pack

As the weather turns chilly, consider winterising your welcome pack too in preparation for your guests to snuggle up. It could be a nice touch to include some hot chocolate sachets to welcome your guests after a long drive alongside the usual tea and coffee, or swap in a bottle of mulled wine instead of the usual options. And of course, a festive hamper wouldn’t be complete without a box of mince pies or some other family favourites such as a selection box or some chocolate coins.

5. A Few Little Extras

If you really want to go all out for your guests during the winter season, think about adding a few other extras; a hot water bottle, snuggly dressing gowns, washable slippers, and of course dressing your property goes along way for customers going on holiday around Christmas and New Year. Around this time, guest expectations are even higher and they will have been looking forward to their Christmas getaway for a long time. Think about adding a Christmas Tree which can be used year after year, a wreath, or just some Christmas scented candles.
